Q & A – Jesse Stone Creatchman
NICHOLAS JASON LOPEZ - What was your goal for “Radio’s Dead”?
Jesse Stone Creatchman – Well, I wanted to make a great record and I wanted to share my story. My experiences leading up to and including the recording process. I’ve experienced much since my last album – moving to NYC, separating from my wife, seeking refuge in Brooklyn and then coming back to Canada and touring. I recorded in a rough studio that tested me both as an artist and as a human. My values were put on the line. I wrote about the studio. I wrote about getting sober. It’s all there on the record. Also, I wanted a record that was all killer, no filler. Not every song on the album ‘Radio’s Dead’ is for everyone, but I think there is a song for everyone.

“Radio’s Dead anyway is a bloody brilliant song.” Jack Broadbent
RADIO’S DEAD OUT NOW !
Radio’s Dead [The Album], coming November 2021, is a genre-bending, LO-FI journey through the highs and lows of the life of the touring artist. Jesse Stone Creatchman, the wordsmith, sings songs about living in Bushwick, a wild-turn affair in Pennsylvania, some nightmarish experiences on the road, his divorce, drug abuse, his time in AA, the death of a friend, and ultimately finding solace in his roots, his music and his family. Stone lays it all on the table, the good the bad, and the ugly. The album puts Stone’s “poetic lyrical prowess and expansive stylistic range” (The Montreal Gazette 2015) on full display. The album is clever, it’s provocative and it’s got one heck of a guest list. Every song is a story on this autobiographical concept album by one of Canada's most daring and inspiring lyricists.
“In with the new, out with the old. Laundromat cycles of hanging the fold.
The colours washed out, the linen was frayed. I rolled down the Overton window.
Scalped me a ticket, caught most the show. Casino roulette at the Russian ballet.
It’s fine, I can see it both ways. I’ll settle as long as I’m paid ”

Retired cantor, Danny Silverman (Jesse’s 80 year old grandfather), gives a a once-in-a-lifetime performance on the opening number, When She Hollers. Internationally acclaimed U.K. slide guitarist, Jack Broadbent, performs on 5 tracks.

country folk rock 'n roller conquers Mont Royal
Mike Cohen | The Suburban | Dec 23, 2019
Watch out for Dollard des Ormeaux native and Riverdale High School grad Jesse Stone! This rocker knows how to put on a show. Before heading out to Saudi Arabia to perform at the Dakar Rally on New Year’s Day with Dawn Tyler Watson, Angel Forrest, and Jonas Tomalty, he and his team organized a pop-up performance at the lookout on Mont-Royal.
“It was freezing,” says Jesse, “but we managed to warm the hearts of passersby with a new Christmas song. In spite of the elements, we were able to capture a high-quality recording.”
You can watch it here.
Fresh off his gig with “master of slide guitar,” Jack Broadbent, the self-confessed country folk rock 'n roller and friends performed quite a beauty. Instruments in hand and dressed for the occasion, a musical troop lead by Stone gathered in a flurry of Santa hats at the Belvedere Kondiaronk lookout. On-lookers gathered around in delight as the corral danced on the frosty snow. The cold temperatures and gusty winds were no match for the spirit of Christmas as the Stone-penned “Merry Christmas! (Happy New Year)" rang out like a modern Christmas classic over the city.
